How Garage Floor Coatings Compare

Here are the 4 most common garage floor coating products on the market today.

1. DIY Kits

By now you should have an idea that this is not a DIY for weekend warriors. Kits are available at your local home improvement store but are closer to painting the surface because home kits do not mechanical bond. If you miss a step in the prep stage, the surface will likely fail and you will be doing it again, or calling in the pros.

2. Epoxy

This is the most common catch-all term used for the floor coating industry, but it is a specific product used mostly in industrial-grade applications. Epoxy is 3x stronger than concrete and very rigid. It is used in commercial situations where easy clean up and maintenance are critical.

3. Polyurea

This is a newer, more viable options for garage floors. It is 4x stronger than epoxy, yet 98% more flexible which means it won’t crack and peel and can last nearly 3x longer than Epoxy. Polyurea is widely used in homes not only for garage floors but also walkways and pool decks.

4. Polyaspartic

Polyaspartic is the newest and best technology for garage floors, and the one we use. Polyaspartic is 20x stronger than epoxy, will not crack and peel, has UV resistance, and retains the flexibility needed in smaller space applications such as garages.

We like this product because it allows us to build it up into different protection levels without compromising its performance.
So, if you are going to be restoring a car and using an engine lift you may need a 6-layer solution versus someone using their garage for storage and parking.

How long does a floor coating take?

A standard 2-car garage can be done in 1 or 2 days. Larger spaces or spaces needing more than average repairs may extend the project by a day or two.

How long does my floor coating have to cure before I can walk on it?

You can walk on the floor the day after we are done.

When can I park my car and move my stuff back in the garage?

We recommend waiting 3 days before you park cars or other heavy vehicles on the floor.

Is Garage Floor Armor slippery if it gets wet?

Our floor is designed with safety in mind, the flakes along with the resulting orange peel texture will help give you better footing.
